Summary:

  • Dexamethasone is a cheap and widely available drug that can save Coronavirus patients.

  • The drug helps cut the death risk by a third for patients on ventilators.

  • For those on oxygens, it cuts death risk by a fifth.

  • 5,000 people in the UK could have been saved from the start of the pandemic, if the drug had first been used.

  • The UK government has 200,000 courses of the drug in its stockpile.

  • The NHS will make the drug available to its patients.

  • Lockdown rules in England now allow households to join another if an adult lives alone, or with a child.

  • People are also allowed to be present at births and visit people seriously unwell at hospitals.

  • Other hospital visits allowed include: visiting dying family members, close relatives or friends.

  • Adults who live alone or with a child under 18 can go to another household.

  • The law also relaxed restrictions on libraries and places of worship.

  • The new lockdown rules came into force on Saturyday & Monday via The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (Amendment) (No.4) Regulations 2020.

  • The law will be reviewed at least once in every 28 days and will expire after 6 months of being brought into force.

  • Mr Shapps stated that surgical masks should be used for clinical settings, and travellers should wear face coverings that are made at home.

  • National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) donated surgical gowns, PPEs, face masks and 17 haemodialysis machines to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).

  • The NKF provides treatment at their dialysis centres to patients referred by government hospitals.

  • This initiative was undertaken to help Malaysian kidney patients.

  • A new app called Telehealth Plus was introduced by Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare (RSDH) to enable virtual consultation for patients at home.

  • The platform caters to people who require general health screening.

  • Patients can follow up with their cardiologists, oncologists and neurosurgeons, paediatricians and physicians via the app.

  • Appointments can also be made with health professionals.

  • The app also allows for video consultation and allows patients to upload test results and reports for doctors to review - virtual health screening can be easily done.

  • Lastly, patients can make e-payments via the app and keep track of consultation history with e-appointment cards.

  • A total of 9,320 participants disagreed with the new shift system. This is because the new system will result in increase of workload and burnout.

  • The participants stated that the health ministry should first address the staff shortage, infrastructure issues - government clinics are understaffed and overworked.

  • MMA president stated that government clinics are currently overcrowded, making it harder to provide effective healthcare services to patients.

  • Government clinics are currently opened from 8AM - 5PM (Monday - Friday).

  • The health ministry is urged to conduct a more detailed study before implementing a new system.
