  • Qualitas Medical Group and Scicom (MSC) Bhd launched a COVID-19 platform to manage screening requirements for companies and workers.

  • The platform is a public e-commerce website and has a test centre management system built with "track and trace" and "digital check-in" functions.

  • All Malaysian employers can now register their employees for screenings, and schedule test appointments and track test results before resuming their work.

  • WHO Emergencies Director stated that predicting when the Coronavirus will go away is pointless.

  • Currently, there are 100 potential vaccines in development.

  • WHO's Mental Health Department reported that the pandemic threatens both physical and mental health, and there will be an increase in the severity of mental health illnesses amongst the people.

  • The causes of isolation, fear, uncertainty and economic turmoil all cause psychological distress to people.

Summary:

  • Taiwan and WHO continue to spar over an email that was sent to the International Health Regulators (IHR) on 31st December 2019.

  • WHO claims that the email received from Taiwan CDC only requested for more information about the virus, but did not warn them about human-to-human transmission.

  • However, The Central Epidemic Command Centre of Taiwan explained that the words "atypical pneumonia" used in the letter was self-explanatory as the term meant a disease transmitted between humans caused by Coronavirus.

  • 17 new cases were reported on Saturday - there is now a national total of 6,872 cases.

  • Malaysia's COVID-19 cases have been on decline since the implementation of the MCO on 18th March.

  • The government will set a date for schools to reopen and provide a 2 weeks notice.

  • The government decided to allow foreigners participating in the MM2H programme to enter the country from Sunday, but must first undertake a 14 day quarantine.

  • Under the MCO, Malaysia maintains a tight border control to prevent Malaysians from leaving the country, and most foreigners from entering.
